Kolkata: In a major breakthrough in the recent ATM frauds in Kolkata, the city police have arrested two foreigners from New Delhi.
A special investigation team of Kolkata Police nabbed the two men from Vasant Vihar in New Delhi today. They are citizens of Romania in Europe and were staying in Delhi on a tourist visa.
As many as 20 cloned ATMs cards, magnetic strips used in ATM cards, two masks, and two passports have been found on them. They used to use the masks while entering ATM counters, police claim.
Kolkata Police sources said that two Romanians had come to Kolkata on 2 March this year and stayed put at Kasba area in south Kolkata for nearly two months.
The CCTV camera at an ATM counter at Golpark in caught two men attaching a card cloning device in the ATM. Kolkata Police shared the footage with the police of several metro cities including Delhi. On 22 July the CCTV camera at an ATM in Delhi recorded two similar looking men trying to tamper with the machine.
On getting the footage, Kolkata Police tallied the same with the footage from Golpark ATM counter and became sure that the men were same. Thus a team flew into Delhi last night and arrested the duo today.
The arrested Romanians are conversant in English and Hindi. Preliminary probe suggests that some Nigerians and Delhi youths are part of their racket, which is operated from the overseas.
