Bolpur: TWO students have been hospitalised with injuries following a clash between two groups of students at a hostel on Visva-Bharati campus in Santiniketan.
The clash took place late last night at Vidya Bhavan hostel. The injured students have been identified as Achintya Bagdi and Alauddin Khan.
Achintya is admitted to Bolpur District Hospital; Alauddin is at Burdwan Medical College and Hospital. Both of them have a head injury.
According to other inmates of the hostel, of late Achintya was bringing in his friends from outside to Vidya Bhavan hostel. Others objected to this several times but he paid no heed.
Last night too, Achintya invited a group of youths who are not students of Visva-Bharati. One of them, a teacher by profession, was allegedly drunk. This made other inmates of the hostel demand that the outsiders must leave at once.
A commotion broke out between Achintya’s group and others over this. It eventually escalated into a clash wherein the group members hit each other with wicket and cricket bat.
Hearing about the commotion, the private security guards employed by Visva-Bharati rushed into the hostel and found Acintya and Alauddin bleeding from the head. They were at once taken to the Bolpur District Hospital. With his condition being critical, Alauddin was relocated to Burdwan Medical College and Hospital today morning.
The Trinamool student wing has lodged a complaint with Visva-Bharati authorities naming 10 from Achintya’s group for the violence. Visva-Bharati officiating vice-chancellor, Sabujkali Sengupta, has said that CCTV footage will be scanned and action will be taken against those found guilty.
