Malda: A bomb blast in north Bengal has claimed two persons and has left four critically injured.
This has happened today afternoon at Mahadipur village under English Bazar police station in Malda district. Mahadipur is an important junction for export-import between India and Bangladesh. Hundreds of lorries halt here before crossing the border.
According to the ones who brought the deceased and the injured to Malda Medical College and Hospital, around 3 pm some miscreants lobbed bombs at the parking lot at Mahadipur and then fled. This is due to a rivalry over the control of the parking lot, they claimed.
Biswajit Ghosh, Bapi Ghosh, Deepak Ghosh, Prasenjit Ghosh, Chiranjit Ghosh, and Kamal Ghosh, who were there at the time, suffered critical injuries. Biswajit and Bapi later died at the hospital.
Police are yet to ascertain that bombs were indeed lobbed at the parking lot. Instead, given that both the deceased and the injured have injuries on the frontal parts of their body, police suspect that the blast may have taken place when the group was making bombs somewhere hear Mahadipur.
A team from English Bazar police station have rushed to the spot for investigation.
