Kolkata: After Behrampore, now Domkol! Two youths from Domkol in Murshidabad have been admitted to the Beleghata ID Hospital in Kolkata suspecting them to be afflicted by the deadly Nipah Virus (NiV).
Incidentally, both the youths hail from the same neighbourhood of Domkol and returned from Kerala only recently. Kerala is where NiV has already claimed some people.
Ashiq Mondal was admitted to the Beleghata ID Hospital on Monday; his neighbour Rajesh Mondal has been admitted today. Both of them have been kept in the isolation ward at the hospital. Another man from their home district Murshidabad is under-treatment at the hospital since 24 May betraying symptoms of NiV affliction.
Ashiq and Rajesh’s families have said that the two had gone to work as masons at Ernakulam in Kerala and returned some 15-20 days ago. They got a fever and severe headache about a week ago.
Their families first took them to Domkol block hospital, from where they were referred to the Murshidabad Medical College and Hospital. But with no improvement in their health conditions, they were referred to the Beleghata ID Hospital. The state health department has issued a directive to all hospitals in the state to report any suspected case of NiV patient to them on a routine basis.
