Howrah / Malda: Two Trinamool workers have been murdered in different parts of the state allegedly by opposition party cadres to avenge the foul play during the Panchayat polls last month.
The first case pertains to Jagatballavpur in Howrah. Trinamool worker Kartik Dhaki (45) went missing on Thursday evening and today dawn his body was found by a pond not very far from his residence.
Trinamool has alleged that BJP workers have killed Dhaki as because he played an active role in the Panchayat elections. They said that during the election some BJP cadres tried to cast false votes but being a polling agent Dhaki resisted the move.
Soon after the voting ended, the BJP cadres assaulted him over this. Dhaki lodged an FIR against 18 BJP cadres for the assault. Allegedly peeved at this, BJP cadres have killed him.
After the recovery of Dhaki’s dead body today at dawn, Trinamool took out a protest rally at Jagatballavpur demanding the arrest of the accused, who have gone into hiding.
In the second incident that took place at Tiorpara village at Harishchandrapur in Malda, Trinamool worker Allauddin Sheikh (55) was attacked with sharp weapons on Thursday afternoon allegedly by Congress cadres.
Sheikh passed away at the Malda Medical College and Hospital today. His family has lodged an FIR against five Congress workers for the murder. Congress leaders of the area, however, has claimed that it was a feud between two families and Trinamool is now trying to assign it a political colour.
