Bolpur, 05 November: POLICE have arrested two youths in Birbhum district for trying to join the district health department with fake appointment letters.
The two, who have been identified as Anirban Choudhury and Ranjit Roy, are residents of Rajnagar and Aurobinda Pally in Suri town in Birbhum, respectively. In their early twenties, the duo turned up at the district health department office at Suri yesterday and produced appointment letters as Group-D staff.
But officials got suspicious about the authenticity of the appointment letters and thus got in touch with the director of health services at Salt Lake in Kolkata. On being told that no such appointment letters have been issued to anyone for the Birbhum health office, the officials alerted the Suri police station.
A team of cops arrived soon and on the basis of an FIR filed by the chief medical officer of health, arrested away the two youths. The duo was produced at the Suri district court today morning and the judge has now remanded them in four days police custody.
Police have initiated an investigation to find out those who had handed over the fake appointment letters to them. Preliminary probe suggests that a local politician of the ruling party is involved in the racket.
