Kolkata: Veteran singer Dwijen Mukhopadhyay, best known for his rendering of Rabindra Sangeet, is critically ill.
The 91-year-old singer was taken to the state-run tertiary healthcare facility, SSKM Hospital in the city, by his family today morning due to fever and pain in the chest.
Finding his condition critical, doctors right away admitted him to the intensive care unit (ICU) at the hospital. A medical broad has been formed to monitor Mukhopadhyay’s health condition round-the-clock.
Dr Raghunath Mishra, the medical superintendent cum vice-principal of SSKM Hospital, said that the veteran is suffering from suffering from a severe infection in the chest and is running a fever. Considering his age, doctors are constantly monitoring him in the ICU.
Mukhopadhyay, who was awarded Padma Bhushan by the Centre in 2010 and Banga Bhibhusan by the Bengal government in 2011, had returned home a few days ago after staying admitted at SSKM Hospital due to infection in the lung. But close on the heels of this, he has been taken ill again.
