Kolkata: The women in Kolkata can this weekend walk down to New Town’s Eco Urban Village, drive a coveted sport-utility vehicle, and return home grabbing a piece of memorabilia.

Yes, it is as easy as you read, provided, you know how to wheel a car!

Mahindra and Mahindra is hosting the second edition of Xtreme U, an “off-roading” event wherein one will get to drive the company’s SUVs on a fabricated rough turf.

The two-day event will kick start at 12 noon on Saturday (9 March) and, only women are allowed to participate. They can, however, tow their male companion or husband to cheer as the audience.

Mahindra and Mahindra said that the event is aimed at “empowering women and prove that women can go beyond traditional boundaries.”

Last year some 100 women had participated in the event; this time it is likely to be around 150.

A specially fabricated rough turf has been laid at the Eco Urban Village for the event in which any woman can participate and there’s no entry fee. The event will culminate on 10 March with the automobile giant giving away prizes to the winners.

Nidhi Tiwari, the first Indian to drive to the coldest inhabited place on Earth, Oymyakon in Russia and one who completed the first ever all-women’s drive to Lo Manthang in Nepal will inaugurate the event.

The organisers have said that they will fete each of the participants with a piece of memorabilia. In addition to this, there will be shows by music bands and dance troupes courtesy Fever 104 FM, which has teamed up for the event.
