Howrah: A gang of armed miscreants has looted Rs 10.68-lakh in cash from a household at Liluah in Howrah.
The robbery took place Sunday night in the house of Subhash Barui at Kona Purbapara locality of Liluah. Barui and other members of the family were out on a vacation leaving the house under the vigil of son-in-law Biren Choudhury.
According to Choudhury, seven armed miscreants forayed into the house last night taking advantage of a power-cut. They allegedly gaged him and tied his hands with a cotton towel.
After this, the gang looted the Rs 10.68-lakh cash that was kept in the vault of a steel almirah. Barui had got the money by selling a plot of land.
Done with the loot, the miscreants escaped. Before leaving, they bolted the door from outside and more significantly, as claimed by Barui’s son-in-law Choudhury, the miscreants removed his gag as well.
This allowed Choudhury to cry out for help. Neighbours came rushing and rescued him by opening the door. On being alerted, a team from Liluah police station arrived soon. The cops are certain about the involvement of an insider in the robbery plan and are verifying the statements of Choudhury.
