Kolkata: WITHIN four days of announcing a reward, Kolkata Police have been able to arrest one of the three suspected terrorists from Bangladesh, who has intruded into Bengal earlier this year.

Sources said that the Special Task Force (STF) of the city police have nabbed Md Aftab Khan alias Umar Faruque alias Mahi from the Nepal border in north Bengal. Aged around 28 years, Kahn is being brought to Kolkata and will be produced in a city court tomorrow.

On 25 November, Kolkata Police had put up on its Facebook page the photographs of Khan, Shopon Biswas alias Sajol Ahmed alias Moon alias Tamin (23), and Nayan Gazi alias Zafor alias Safik alias Saiful alias Ariful Gazi (30), seeking information about them from the public. Of them, Khan and Biswas hail from Khulna, and Gazi is from Satkhira in Bangladesh.

An undisclosed amount of award was also announced for those providing genuine information about the three suspected terrorists.

Police came to know about them after interrogating three suspected terrorists in Kolkata on 21 November and another suspect on 24 November who are allegedly associated with Ansarullah Bangla Team  ~ a frontal outfit for the al-Qaeda in Bangladesh.

Subsequently, the trio’s photographs were obtained by police from a hotel in Howrah where they had put up. The photographs were at once made public via Facebook and other channels.
