Kolkata: A woman in her sixties clung onto the decomposed body of her elderly brother who died at least two-three days ago!

It is the stench that finally made the neighbours alert the police. The men in uniform retrieved the dead body today 27 August and sent it for post-mortem.

This has happened in an apartment at Narendrapur on the southern suburbs of Kolkata. The deceased man has been identified as Anjan Kumar Dey (70) and his sister’s name is Minati Dey.

The brother-sister duo used had been living in a third-floor apartment at Narendrapur’s B Block. The neighbours say that they hardly socialised and never paid the maintenance fee for the apartment.

The neighbours saw them last three-four days ago and thought that they might have gone on a tour. But a strong foul smell emanating from the Dey flat today morning compelled them to alert the police.

A team from Narendrapur police station arrived around 11 am and knocked on the door. The sister attended to the door and stepping in, police found her elder brother lying dead on the floor of the living room. The body had decomposed partially.

Police subsequently retrieved the body and sent it for post-mortem. The sister was sent to a mental hospital for treatment as the police suspect her to be mentally unstable.

The cops are not sure how did the elderly man died and are hoping that the post-mortem report will throw a light on the reason. The deceased was an advocate by profession but had stopped practicing for the last several years.
