Kolkata, 21 November: A TWENTY-five year old woman died of dengue at Barahnagar in North 24-Parganas on Friday night. With this, the total number dengue deaths in West Bengal this season, according to state health department officials, has gone up to 12.

Piya Sengupta, a resident of Sachin Sen Nagar under ward number 1 in Barahnagar Municipality, was suffering from high fever since the past couple of days. On Friday afternoon, after she started vomiting, family members got her admitted to a private nursing home.

But her condition deteriorated soon and she passed away in the night.  Her blood samples had been tested positive for dengue.

Bengal health department officials are hoping that with the onset of winter in the state, spread of dengue will come down. Dengue spreads through mosquitoes within the genus of Aedes that generally breed in humid climate.
