Kolkata: A woman from Baranagar on the northern fringes of Kolkata has lodged complaint against a Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel accusing him of sexual harassment on board an express train.
Going by the complaint, lodged at the Government Railway Police (GRP) station at Sealdah today 12 September, the woman and her husband were traveling by Darjeeling Mail.
They boarded the AC-III tier B4 coach from New Jalpaiguri station in Siliguri last night. After the train crossed Kishanganj station in Bihar around midnight, the woman, 28-year-old, went to the washroom.
Going by her complaint, while she was returning to her seat from the washroom, the RPF personnel was coming from the opposite direction. On the pretext of crossing through the passage, he allegedly pressed his body against her and touched her inappropriately.
The woman told this to her husband at once but they decided to keep mum, for the time being, thinking that they will not get the backing of other passengers.
But sometime later, as the couple went to sleep on their berths, the RPF man allegedly came again. In the dark, he was approaching the middle berth on which the woman was asleep, that the husband shouted out aloud.
This made the RPF personnel leave the coach in a hurry. The woman’s husband reported the matter to the TTE, who in turn made all the RPF personnel in the train to appear before them.
The victim woman identified the one who had harassed her. He is Dipankar Dey, an assistant sub-inspector at GRP Siliguri. Sensing trouble he apologised to the woman in front of the TTE and others.
After Darjeeling Mail reached Sealdah today morning, the woman lodged her complaint at Sealdah GRP. The complaint has been registered as an FIR and GRP sources said that it will be forwarded to Siliguri where the accused is posted.
