Kolkata: Police have arrested three youths for allegedly gang-raping a woman who was waiting to catch a train at Park Circus railway station in central Kolkata past Wednesday midnight.

The woman hails from Basanti in South 24-Parganas and had gone to National Medical College and Hospital at Beniapukur in the city to see her nephew who is admitted there.

According to the middle-aged woman, after seeing her nephew, she came to Park Circus railway station to catch a train to Canning. But with the last train on the route already gone, she decided to watch over the night on the platform.

Around 1 am, she walked a little way along the railway line to relieve herself. During this, the three youths allegedly dragged her from the place, took to a secluded area, and raped her in turns. Hearing the woman’s cry for help, residents from the vicinity came and rescued her.

They subsequently alerted the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and the Sealdah Government Railway Police station. Cops came and sent the woman for a medical test.

Acting on an FIR lodged by her, the railway police have arrested three youths you live in the vicinity of Park Circus. “They are Bapi Mondal, Sanjib Singh, and Indrajit Patra. We are questioning on the episode,” said Sealdah superintendent of railway police, Asesh Biswas.
