Barasat: A young bank officer has been found hanging inside a nationalised bank branch at Titagarh in North 24-Parganas.
Police are yet to confirm whether it is a case of murder or a suicide. The widow of the deceased has alleged that the manager of the branch used to bestow excessive workload on her husband and due to this he used to return home not before 10 in the night.
Ratnadip Nayak, in his late 30’s, was transferred to SBI Titagarh branch about three months ago and was designated as the service manager of the branch. He rented an apartment in a locality not very far from the bank and used to stay with wife.
Ever since joining the branch, there had been hardly a day when Nayak returned home before 10 pm as there was always a workload on him. But last night when he did not return even after 11 pm, his wife dialed his mobile phone and found it switched off. She then dialed the bank’s land phone but nobody answered the call.
Concerned by this, the homemaker went to the bank only to found it locked. The security guards posted outside the bank appeared clueless about Nayak. This made Nayak’s wife to report the matter to Titagarh police station, which is located opposite to the bank.
Police at once called up the bank manager and asked him to come over at the earliest. The manager arrived in about an hour and opened the locks in the presence of police. On stepping in, everyone was taken aback to find Nayak hanging from the ceiling.
Neither there was a suicide note nor were any signs of loot in the bank. Police retrieved the dead body and sent it for post-mortem.
Taking a cue from the allegation by Nayak’s widow that he was under excessive workload, police have quizzed the manager for a clue to the unnatural death. The guards posted outside the bank last night are also being questioned.
