Asansol, 17 September: ONE person has died and three are injured in a blast at an electronics goods repair centre at Bharati Road in Durgapur. The blast took place around 10 am on Thursday morning.
The CID team and a bomb disposal squad that went to the spot soon after the blast, recovered from the site two sealed containers having low intensity improvised explosive device (IED). The IEDs were defused later.
The deceased has been identified as Pappu Ram (27), who worked at the repair centre owned by one Shankar Keot. The three injured, including two workers and the owner, are admitted at the Durgapur sub-divisional hospital.
Police have arrested the owner Shankar Keot.
Local residents initially thought that the blast was the result of a refrigerator compressor blowing off during repair. But police later found out that it was caused by a low intensity IED explosion.
Police have sealed the repair centre suspecting the presence of more bomb-making material inside. A team of forensic experts from Kolkata will visit the blast site on Friday.
