Hooghly: A youth, who was in a live-in relationship with a woman almost double his age, has been found dead in the woman’s flat at Chandannagar in Hooghly.
The incident took place in the wee hours today at Kartika Abasan building located at Chandannagar’s Barabazar locality. The deceased has been identified as Suman Ghosh (28).
Suman was a native of Hemanta Basu Colony at neighbouring Bandel town. His live-in partner, aged around 45-years, lost her husband a few years ago and since then used to live in her flat at Kartika Abasan with a minor daughter.
A year or two into her husband’s death, Suman somehow came across the woman and the two gradually developed a love affair. The youth eventually moved into her flat and started living as a live-in partner.
Suman’s elder brother Mrityunjay Ghosh said that they knew about this but did not object as the two were planning a registry marriage.
Last night Suman came home in a drunken state, and according to his partner, straightway entered his room in the flat. Initially, she thought he was sleeping but when Suman did not open the door for dinner despite repeated knocks, she got suspicious.
The woman dialled Chandannagar police station around 1 am today. She also alerted Suman’s parents at Bandel. Police came and broke open the door to find the youth hanging from the ceiling fan. They sent his body for post-mortem.
Police are talking to the woman for a clue as to what prompted him to end his life. Suman’s family has not hurled any allegation and hasn’t lodged a complaint against her.
