Midnapore: A young BJP worker has been found murdered at a village in Purulia district. A poster found near his dead body announces that he has been murdered because he joined the BJP at the age of 18 years only.
The victim has been identified as Trilochan Mahato, a resident of Supurdi village under Balarampur police station jurisdiction.
Mahato had actively worked for the BJP during the recently concluded Panchayat polls in Bengal. Purulia is one of the few of districts in Bengal where the ruling Trinamool lost several Panchayat seats to the BJP.
According to the family members of Mahato, he had gone village haat or daily market yesterday afternoon to sell vegetables. He did not return home in the night. Today morning some villages saw his dead body lying on the ground in a forested area on the outskirts of the village.
He was wearing a short trouser and a T-shirt. On the back of the T-shirt scribbled with a pen was the sentence “BJP politics at the age of 18 years.” A hand-scribbled poster found next to the body reads that Mahato has been punished because he joined BJP politics at such a young age. The poster also reads that an attempt on Mahato was being planned since the Panchayat polls.
BJP Purulia district president Vidyasagar Chakraborty has blamed the Trinamool for the murder. “Such a brutality can only be carried out by the Trinamool. We will organise a strong protest against this.”
Trinamool, as usual, has denied the charges. Joy Biswas, the superintendent of police of Purulia, has said that the police were yet to confirm the political affiliation of the murdered youth. “We have started an investigation. Everything will come out in the course,” he said.
