Bankura, 24 September: A YOUTH has been stabbed to death during a village panchayat in Bankura in Bengal over an affair with a neighbour girl.
The incident took place at Khairboni village in Raipur in Bankura on Wednesday evening.
Momin Ali (17), a student of class XI was having an affair for the past few months with a neighbour girl who studies in class XII. The girl’s family objected to the affair, following which Momin’s father Hurmat Ali sent him to his maternal uncle’s house in another village.
Not satisfied with this, the girl’s family lodged a complaint with the village panchayat alleging that Momin had slapped their daughter in school as she tried to end the affair. The village panchayat subsequently convened a meeting on Wednesday evening and the boy was summoned in person.
But in the course of the panchayat meet to settle the issue, an altercation broke out between the boy and the family members of the girl. The angry father, uncle and two brothers of the girl then stabbed the boy multiple times with daggers that they had concealed beneath their apparels.
Others present in the panchayat meet rushed a seriously injured Momin Ali to the Raipur block health centre where he was pronounced brought dead.
The deceased boy’s father has lodged an FIR against five persons of the girl’s family and police have succeeded to nab her mother Nishima Bibi from a nearby village on Thursday. The others are absconding.
A police team led by the sub-divisional police officer of Khatra is camping in Khairboni village to defuse further tension.
